My Fashion Experiment, 25 new outfits for $50
Last year, I had fun with the challenge of creating 30-40 outfits with a few articles of clothing. This year I wanted to have the same experience, but not start fresh buying ALL new pieces of clothing (who can afford that?!). So I wondered if I could again create completely new outfits using existing articles and carefully selecting a few more, and doing it for $50*.
In today's world of internet writing, one has to not only say what one thinks, but also clarify what one DOESN'T think. Let it be said then, that I do not idolize clothes, nor what people think of me wearing them. I do enjoy clothes. I also enjoy things that are pleasing to the eye--colors, textures, and things of beauty. It brings me pleasure to play around with them, and I have fun creating variety. I enjoy the challenge of being frugal, but don't find ultimate satisfaction in the bargain. I truly believe that God provides these bargains for me as a way of showering not only His provision, but also His affection. There. Now there's no reading between the lines. :)
Chevron tank from Kohl's. You saw the tag, for a whopping $3.20! But actually they were having a SUPER sale, and all clearance items were an additional 25% off, making this shirt = $2.40!
Chambray shirts are everywhere this season. I love mine, and if I didn't tell you, I bet you'd have no idea that it is a Miley Cyrus shirt from Walmart, cost = 99cents! (I rarely shop at Walmart, cuz I'm a Target gal, but one late I was there picking up medicine and saw the 99 cent rack, so I just had to take a peek!)
I got this pumpkin sweater from H&M 2 Fall's ago. It passes as coral for Spring! Repurposing off-season clothing = free! I like how the denim goes with my favorite apricot pants, you may remember from last year's Spring Break and Summer wardrobe.
Below I used the denim shirt even on dressier occasions. On the right, I made this voluminous scarf with a scrap and the beads from a broken bracelet. I found the tutorial here. I'm wearing the denim shirt over the coral dress and cream leggings from last summer. On the left, I'm wearing them with my fave new wide-leg pants, which you'll read more about below. ;)
This Hang 10 dress, another Kohl's clearance. $8.80 + 25% off = $6.60! Paired with the stripe sweater from last Spring, my repurposed Fall sweater, and my denim jacket from Rome.
Cream linen shirt from Ross, $11.
Purple dress, Kohl's clearance, $6 + 25% = $4.50! Worn with the linen top, repurposed Fall sweater, and crochet sweater from last year.
Turquoise jeans (already seen in some above pictures). Found on clearance at Target = $13. Worn with striped travel shirt from last summer, and tank and sweater from last year's wardrobe. Winter lingered where we were this year, so I found this turquoise and black hoodie, $5, also on Target clearance. I wore it every day over my pajamas as well because it was so unexpectedly chilly!
The wide-legged pants! My absolute favorite new addition. I found them at Dorothy Perkins for $8. They were surprisingly versatile, super comfortable, and just plain fun!
Lastly is my Big Break shirt, which I wore every Saturday when students arrived. Here it is 4 different ways.
*(The top left purchase on the price-tag picture is not included in this 25 outfit experiment, but I included it on my diptic after a great day of bargains--it's the only picture I have of the price tags).
